Royal Caribbean reveals new details on its most anticipated new cruise ship ever, Icon of the Seas. The cruise line details some new offerings that will be featured in the Thrill Island and Surfside neighborhoods.
It comes as the giant LNG-powered vessel continues to be constructed at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. As Royal Caribbean gets close to the ship’s debut in January 2024, even more new details are expected to be revealed.
Thrill Island’s Latest Features
The excitement continues for Royal Caribbean’s record-breaking new mega-ship, Icon of the Seas, which is still under construction. The cruise reveals some new spaces that guests can enjoy onboard, more specifically, at the Thrill Island and Surfside neighborhoods. The cruise line initially revealed the new vessel in October 2022, including the eight different neighborhoods onboard.
To be featured in the Thrill Island neighborhood, Basecamp will be a new dining venue that will have easy access for those guests enjoying all the nearby thrilling features. The venue will even have a walk-up window and a bar.
Fan-favorite FlowRider surf simulator will be available to its guests in the neighborhood alongside a new spin on its signature mini golf, highlighting an exhilarating course with plane crashes, shipwrecks, and fallen palm trees at Lost Dunes.
For all of the adventure-seekers onboard, guests can visit the fun at Adrenaline Peak, with a new design on the line’s signature rock-climbing wall, making it the ultimate expedition. The wall will offer guests the highest vantage point on the ship and racing lanes with immaculate ocean views.
This neighborhood will additionally offer a lineup of Insta-worthy milkshake concoctions, including spiked adult options, at the new Desserted venue.
Surfside’s New Offerings
Royal Caribbean has also revealed some new details in the Surfside neighborhood, which will be featured onboard Icon of the Seas. Guests will get to enjoy an arcade, a reimagined beach-themed carousel, and a Splashaway Bay kids aquapark.
A wide array of family options will surely attract all ages in this neighborhood onboard, providing guests with a slideable and climbable Playscape to further support the area’s design with young families in mind.
Offering retro-style favorites, Icon of the Seas‘ Surfside will host a variety of options to eat and drink, such as the Lemon Post, making its debut as the bar for the entire family, featuring a diverse menu with options for grownups and kids.
A first-time offering for Royal Caribbean, this neighborhood will also feature a new breakfast, lunch, and dinner spot, Pier 7, a laid-back specialty restaurant to serve beachside bites from mango shrimp tostadas to the popular surf’n’turf. Surfside Eatery will also debut on Icon of the Seas as a dedicated buffet experience.

The ship will offer guests eight differing neighborhoods onboard, including Thrill Island, Chill Island, Suite Neighborhood, Surfside, AquaDone, Central Park, Royal Promenade, and The Hideaway.
At 250,800 gross tons, Icon of the Seas will become the world’s largest cruise ship in the world with the capacity to hold 2,350 crew members on top of 5,610 passengers at double occupancy.
With seven swimming pools and six water slides, the LNG-powered ship will sail seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries out of Miami, Florida, beginning on January 27, 2024.
